Dear Landfill…An Apology and a Promise

I am so so sorry that I’m junking you up. I really didn’t mean for this to happen. I honestly thought I’d want all of this stuff for ever and ever, amen. I hope you enjoy the video tapes of me playing basketball, be nice and don’t make fun of the terry cloth headband, I needed it at the time. If you’re super smart, you could probably commit identity theft. I shredded nearly everything that had our names or SS#’s but if you dig enough, you might get lucky.

I promise NOT to put any old paint in you. I properly dispose of that stuff during our county’s hazardous household waste collection. I also promise NOT to buy too much stuff from now on that will make its way to your borders. Thanks for your help. I don’t know what I’d do without you.

Truly,
A Recovering Consumer

    I like. 🙂

Got her via Cheryl’s blog and am enjoying looking through your posts. A HUGE thanks on the Pandora link. I might just be hooked.

Boy, I have the same issues regarding the CDs. What’s worse, I have LPs!!! I have this device on my piano that lets me record the vinyl onto CD. I’ve had it for, oh, I dunno…5 years? I’ve done exactly 1 CD. Like your basketball tapes, I have choir LPs from singing in county and state choirs. I don’t listen to them, but I can’t seem to part with them…yet.

I’m inspired. I’m going to record those LPs on CD, scan the group photos, and then….then? Hmm…donate or sell the machine? (it also plays CDs, LPs and has an AM/FM tuner).

    Valerie,
Converting those LP’s sounds like the perfect job for one of your children. Double bonus-learn how to do it and listen to you sing at the same time. Your comment reminded me that I have to get on a similar project. Ironically, while clearing out the big cabinet I wanted to sell, I came across a note to look for an old recording for my aunt on ebay or internet. It’s The Story of Jesus with Prayers and Hymns produced by the Catholic Children’s Record Club. When she asked me to track it down 2 years ago, the only reference I saw to it was in the archives at Franciscan U. Obviously not accessible. So on a whim, i did another search and found a copy for 35.00. It’s very unique on red vinylite, 12 disc set. Since it was a 78, I bought a USB turntable to convert it and will still try. I was having trouble with my mac converting it to an MP3 to burn a CD. Anyway, even though my kids are 7 and up, I think I have a small window that they’d enjoy a listen through. I know my aunt will love it just for the nostalgia. I probably will sell the machine afterward, too. If I have any luck and it isn’t too time-consuming, I’ll send you a CD. Your decluttering posts are inspiring me to plow forward.
